Client / Brief

A local henna artist based in Portland, OR who has worked both small and large-scale events.

This business, now known as SHARP Henna, wanted a banner to hang in tents and on tables.

Colors / Fonts

Because of the longstanding cultural significance of henna and its use of natural ingredients, I stuck to earth tones and showcased common henna designs on the banner. I wanted to pick a font that mimicked the fluidity of henna but was still legible. Berkshire Swash fit perfectly with its extra flair and varied thickness on its letters.

Challenges

Making the henna designs was one of the hardest parts due to the amount of shapes and lines combined into one object. There had to be some calculations to ensure that shapes would revolve evenly around the circle. Another obstacle was the patterned background, which took a lot of tweaking so that it wouldn’t be too distracting or block any important elements.
